Attendance
September 2024
The attendance of our children matters to all of us at St. Stephen’s Junior School and this page is designed to show why good attendance is so important for children’s wellbeing, progress and achievement and their sense of belonging.
Belonging is at the heart of our values and by creating an atmosphere in which children can thrive and fulfil their potential, attending school every day is vital. Every hour/day that a child misses school means ‘lost’ learning in their education. Did they miss the start of a new topic or a vital lesson or even the opportunity to read in class?
As a school we want to support our children and parents to overcome any barriers to great attendance, to listen, to help and to provide support both in school and by using specialist agencies to work with you and your child.
- We will let you know our whole school attendance regularly and also keep you updated, as parents, on your own child’s attendance. Watch this space as the year progresses!
- We will let you know where our focus is and what we are trying to achieve.
In September our focus will be to ensure all children are welcomed back to school. To allay any fears or anxieties they may have after being away from school over the holiday, to support them in their return and to develop a pattern and expectation of being in school every day.
In the Autumn term, we will be looking at the attendance of children since the start of September and contacting those parents whose children have attendance below 90%.
This is to ensure that parents are aware of their child’s attendance but also to offer support if it is needed.
We will also be tracking those children whose attendance is 100% so far and will recognise this achievement at the end of the term.
- We will celebrate good attendance, recognise improvement and prompt arrival at school with individual children and also in their classes and in our assemblies.
