Curriculum Vision

We want all our pupils to be able to make a positive impact within our school, the local community and the wider world both now and in the future. Our curriculum has been planned to ensure that the experiences and knowledge that pupils learn will allow them to develop as global citizens who can have an investment and sense of curiosity in the world around them.

Belonging is at the heart of our school values, pupils need to feel safe and secure so that they are able to learn. We have high aspirations for every pupil, academically in their learning as well as their ability to manage their own wellbeing and understanding of others, whilst making a positive contribution to the community they are in. Our school recognises that every child’s learning journey is unique and it is our job to nurture and grow all of our pupil’s potential.

When pupils transition to secondary school we want them to feel proud of their achievements at our school and be confident in meeting the demands of secondary school both academically and pastorally.

Each curriculum is carefully structured so that children build on and develop their knowledge and skills over time, revisiting and strengthening their understanding and knowledge in each curriculum area. Over time this enables them to develop a secure map of knowledge, whilst also developing specific skills within the curriculum area.

Key concepts are identified within each curriculum area to support pupils' understanding of the bigger picture themes within the curriculum – these often link with other areas allowing pupils to extend their knowledge map and understanding of how concepts and skills link.

Long-term memory is a key focus for the delivery of all our curriculums to ensure that pupils are able to recall previous learning and apply this to their new learning. All our curriculums are planned with this in mind to enable all pupils to draw on previous knowledge and contextualise their learning.

We learn and discuss our mantra as part of our assemblies, which embodies our school values :

We work to create an environment where all members of our community belong.
We are honest about ourselves and what we say and do.
We are kind to ourselves and others.
We are creative and flip problems into opportunities.
We respect ourselves and make good choices for our own and others' well-being.
We respect others and treat people fairly. We celebrate differences.
We respect the world we live in and we make responsible choices.
We work towards a better school, community and world; today, tomorrow and in the future.
