Year 6 is the final year the children spend at St. Stephen's, and possibly the most challenging and exciting one. Our aim is to ensure that every child grows their resilience, confidence and self-belief in preparation for their secondary school transition. We are fortunate enough to have our own Year 6 block which encourages the children in their independence as they move to different classrooms for lessons and work with a range of staff throughout the day.
In our lessons, creativity and the ability to ‘think outside of the box’ are encouraged and celebrated; we want our children to be able to think and act on their thoughts and curiosity. At all times, we celebrate every member of our team as an individual who has a wealth of knowledge and life experiences to share. In our culture of high expectations and mutual respect for all, we enjoy our learning, we work to the best of our ability, and we celebrate our achievements.
We have a busy, lively curriculum in Year 6. English and maths are taught every day. Science includes practical and investigative work, which is sometimes messy, and always enjoyable. There is never a dull moment in Year 6. The children have a wonderful last year - and it is no wonder that their excitement about starting secondary school is always mixed with regret for everything they leave behind at the end of their final term.
