During term 5, year five will be studying the Tudors, focusing on the period of King Henry VIII’s rule of England. As part of our ‘hook’ into the new topic the children are going to take part in a Tudor Walk through Canterbury where they will study Tudor buildings and hunt for Tudor Roses! The children will also be given an opportunity to sketch a Tudor building.
We will be using the context of the Tudors within literacy this term. This will give pupils an opportunity to learn about some non-fiction text genres, as well as exploring fiction writing skills.
Pupils will spend the afternoon lessons next term learning about Tudor history. They will: learn about Tudor heraldry and make their own Tudor shields in DT, create Tudor costumes from newspaper for a Tudor fashion show, make and eat Tudor sweets, learn about Tudor fashion, compare and contrast Tudor medicine with modern practice and take part in a Tudor day!
