As the summer draws to a close, the nights become darker. This is the perfect time to look up at the stars and wonder what is up there? This term year five will be studying one of the most popular, and eagerly awaited, topics of the year: space! We will be studying space as part of the National Curriculum Earth and Spaceunit, and are going to expand this theme across the curriculum.
As part of our ‘hook’ into the new topic the children are going to investigate Tim Peake and learn all about the famous British astronaut! We will be using the context of space, and the International Space station, within literacy this term. It will also give pupils an opportunity to learn about different non-fiction text genres, such as non-chronological reports and biographies. Pupils will spend their afternoon lessons constructing model space stations in DT and create a space themed animation in their computing lessons. This fully immersive topic is sure to lift the children out of their seats and into a world of scientific creativity.
