Overview for Week 1 and 2

Our Year 4 journey will begin over 1000 years ago when the Vikings ruled the waves, and monsters ruled the seas. We will trace the footsteps of the legenday Beowulf and learn of his heroism and of his battles with beasts. Using iPads and iMovie, as well as their acting prowess, the year 4s will recreate scenes from the epic story of Beowulf, before launching their films with a presentation and movie trailer.

Our topic lessons will involve a trip to Canterbury Cathedral where children will get to take part in a costume trail to re-enact the Viking invasions of Britain. In Science, children will be investigating what materials the Vikings used to create a successful nappy, as well as how Viking boat shapes were designed so that they were streamlined and sturdy.
