Sleepover to raise funds for Porchlight

Porchlight2Following a recent School Council meeting, representatives would like our school to fundraise for Porchlight, a local homeless charity. On Friday 25th May 2018 we will be hosting a sleep over for 50 pupils. Children who wish to take part need to apply for a place by Thursday 29th March.

Children will be selected randomly to take part. All participants are expected to gain sponsorship for the sleep over and raise as much money as they can. The event will start at 6pm where will have some activities in the Forest school including a BBQ dinner. Children will have the option to sleep in tents (please provide own) in the Forest school or in the school hall; both locations will be supervised by our staff. The following morning we will have breakfast and a final activity before children are collected between 9.30-10am.

For more information and to register interest in taking part please complete and return this FORM

Our football team performs exceptionally well

IMG 0512Our football team competed in a Premier League Primary Stars football competition at Kent University. The boys played excellent games throughout while not conceding a single goal and remained unbeaten throughout the competition.

They were unfortunately eliminated due to goal difference at the end. Well done boys! You represented the school extremely positively and we are very proud of you.

Practice makes perfect for our dancers

Dancers from Year 5 have been rehearsing alongside ‘Impact’ in preparation for a Street Dance Competition that will be hosted here at St. Stephen's Junior School in May. Fifteen children have been selected and are enjoying their weekly sessions in a new dance style. Details about the competition will be released nearer the event...stay tuned!

World Book Day celebrated in style

100WordStoriesMar18World Book Day was celebrated by St. Stephen's a week later than usual thanks to the creative efforts of Mother Nature and the snowfall last week, but that didn't stop children and staff from turning their enthusiasm and creativity levels up to 100% in a fantastic celebration of reading. The school was filled with colourful and creative book-themed costumes and the child with the most imaginative costume in each year group won the Friday Cup. The winning costumes can be seen in the gallery below.

In the afternoon the whole school took part in a reading treasure hunt around the school – the winning child from each class has been invited to a Mad Hatter’s Tea-Party in the library next Thursday. All of the children were presented with their own copy of our published book of short stories.

A sensational ski trip to Italy

60 staff, children, and parents from St. Stephen's Junior visited Macugnaga in Italy from the 28th January to the 2nd February 2018 on the annual St. Stephen's Junior ski trip. Prior to our arrival snowfall had been heavier than on previous trips and provided for excellent skiing conditions throughout the week, with clear, calm, sunny days and only a little snow creeping in on Thursday the 1st February.

Arriving at the hotel in Pecetto village early Sunday afternoon, children spent the following week skiing, ice-skating, visiting an old mine in the nearby village of Staffa, followed by an exhilirating ride up a cable car to the mountain top where spectacular views stunned all into silence. There was little cloud cover up the mountain this year, which presented with even more dreamlike views than before. The group arrived back in Canterbury at around 8pm on Friday the 2nd February. What an adventure!
