Year 6 visits the wartime tunnels at Dover Castle

Year 6 had an enjoyable day exploring the World War II tunnels and Dover Castle. During a tour of the Operation Dynamo tunnel, the children learnt about how the tunnels were used as offices to plan the evacuation of Dunkirk. The children also learnt about the importance of Dover during World War II, and had a chance to explore the castle of Henry II who we learnt about in year 5 when studying the murder of Thomas Becket. A fun day of out of the classroom learning!

Exciting news, warmth at last

staff 7371

We are really delighted that our boilers are installed and at long last we have agreement from KCC that we could install the gas pipe! This has taken almost 26 weeks to agree. The gas pipe will be going in next week and by the end of the week our meters and gas boilers should be connected up and we should have heating. I know it’s really cold at the moment in part of the school and we are asking children to dress up warm with an extra vest or T-shirt under their school uniform.

We are trying to cheer them up with hot chocolate from time to time and making every effort to keep the school open even though at times it is quite chilly in some of the classrooms. There are extra warm-up exercises in the morning and I know staff will appreciate every effort parents are making to ensure the children are at school. If it does become too cold we have heating in the hall and we can move our children there for their lessons in the short time that we are waiting for these connections to happen.

Mr. Jarvis (Head of Year 6)

"Year 6 began their World War 2 topic with a World War 2 day. During this engaging day, the children took part in different workshops such as looking at authentic artefacts, taking part in an army drill and dancing to the Lambeth Walk! They were given the chance to dress up and also heard a real air raid siren being played as part of learning about sheltering during the Blitz".
