From the Desk of the Headteacher
April is always an interesting month for many reasons. We often have the cold wet weather but we can also get at least a few days of warmer sunnier weather. It would have been great if it had been this warm last week !
However as the weather gradually gets warmer, new summer clothes and smiles begin to replace frowns. The school at this time of year always seems very established with it’s routines fully in place, new staff that have settled in and children are beginning to feel comfortable with their classmates and learning.
Yet as the month moves on there is an increasing air of change and expectancy. Year 6 take their end of year SATs tests, they plan for their end of year production at the Gulbenkian and prepare for their transfer to Secondary schools. The weather improves further and becomes warmer and like fledglings all our children start stretching their wings. We see this in their work and their increasing maturity, confidence, independence and creativity. We look for opportunities and ways to move them forward. This week groups of children have taken part in sports competitions, visited exhibitions and galleries, next week we have our parent’s evenings and the term begins in earnest.
We are really pleased to let parents know that we have been partly successful with our new boiler bid. We are getting some funding but we won’t know how much until the end of the month. We always do our best with the limited resources we have available and will seek to ensure our heating and water systems are ready for next year. Sadly however we are facing budget cuts this year and just in general terms have £30k less than last year although we have ten more children.
This month our key learning skill is “Curiosity”, finding out answers to questions for ourselves. “ Understanding and Caring ” for others as well as ourselves
Let’s hope that sunshine is around the corner both meteorologically and financially.
