Hosting excitingly entertaining Community lunches

A word from our Catering Manager:
A long while ago I was approached enquiring if St. Stephen's Junior School would be interested in hosting a lunch for the local elderly community. Without hesitation the answer was YES and so the community lunches started.
More than 10 years on and they are going from strength to strength. We host a lunch once a term usually on a Thursday for approximately 40-50 of the local community. The lunch is such a wonderful event to have at the school for all involved.
The children thoroughly enjoy helping and getting involved in every aspect including escorting our guests to their tables, waiting on and even serving up the lunches from the kitchen.
We provide some entertainment during lunch, usually from the school choir. This is especially lovely during the Christmas term when we have carols, mince pies and some of the guests join in singing.
The benefits of hosting these lunches are brilliant. Just watching the children engage with our guests is heart-warming. The kindness and respect they show the elderly is wonderful to see.
Speaking to the guests after lunch and hearing all the positive comments we feel very fortunate to be part of this community and hope this continues for many more years.
